Calling All Superheros!!

What 5 year old boy doesn't like Superheros? So when my son decided he wanted to have a superhero birthday, it wasnt surprising, the only question was... which superhero? Spiderman, Batman, Superman, Hulk, Buzz, Ben 10, Ironman and the list went on...
So what do you do when you have a huge list of Superheros, but no idea who to use? MAKE UP YOUR OWN!
To start off I sent out invites in manilla folders and marked CONFIDENTIAL. Inside was a mission statement:
Hero: Bailey
Date & Time:
Address:
Mission: Bailey thinks you have what it takes to attend his training camp to prepare against The Masked CakeTaker (names arent my strong point). Please come in your superhero costume because your identity is your best protection.
I put small print at the bottom which said: This note will not self destruct

For the decorations i just went with colours. So red and blue were my mains with hints of yellow and black. I made my own SUPER BAILEY banner, the plates and napkins were red and for food I made some POW and BOOM cookies, the cake had a B, the cakepops were colour themed and the lollybags had POW and BOOM on them.
Also, I did a google search and found some free drink labels which had superheros on them, and the kids loved drinking water that was for superheros!

To start off the kids all decorated their own mask, that helped break the ice and to get them off their parents legs haha.
I set the kids up for training, gave a speech about what to do and to warn them about The Masked Cake Take, then all of a sudden The Masked Cake Taker interrupted and dropped some bombs and ran off again! The bombs were small black and purple balloons which i filled with glitter. The kids had to stomp on them to defuse them. After that we continued with the training. i bought some orange cones from K-Mart in the sporting section for $5, so kids had to run in and out of them, then in hoops, then over some building i painted on cerel boxes, and on the tramponline the had to jump off it doing their power ounch in the air. After that, they had to find kryptonite that was planted around the yard by The Masked Cake Taker. The kryptonite was just rocks i painted green and sprinkled glitter on them. At the end, I gave each child a certificate for their training.
Then they played pass the parcel, because its a loved kids game.
It was a great day and so good to see the kids come in their costumes. We had Super Bailey, Buzz Lightyear, Ironman, Jessie, Hulk, Wonder Woman, Spiderman, Mr IncredibleSuperman and Batman, and we got a photo of all of them because I got a photographer in since I wouldn't have time to take photos and it was so nice to look back on the photo and see thangs I had missed, and see the way the kids interacted with each other.

Easter Time 2011

Easter means something different to everyone. In our house, with 2 little boys, it's all about the Easter Bunny and the choclates he brings. So, what did the Easter Bunny bring the boys this year? They got a Humpty Dumpty egg each as well as a big colouring in pack, and went on a egg hunt. OK, so its not much, but the boys don't eat a lot of chocolate and lollies through the year, so it's pretty exciting for them. They dont even eat all of the chocolate they get as it is, so any more would be a waste.
We started off by having fish, chips and salad and a banana split for dessert (i even made my own peanut brittle to sprinle over it, and my own chocolate sauce) on Good Friday.
Master B was VERY disappointed that we werent decorating the WHOLE HOUSE in easter decorations, so we did a last minute Easter Table.

Easter table for Sunday

A couple of the decorations included things that the boys had made. they decorated 3 eggs each and also made their baskets. Not only were they quiet, they also were happy to be included in the easter celebrations. After all, it's all about the kids!! The baskets weren't perfect, but they were perfect for OUR day!!

Boys made their own baskets for the egg hunt

The boys decorated eggs
Easter Sunday we started off with pancakes for breakfast. Then I made my own hotcross buns, and also made some cupcakes. The day is all about stuffing your self silly with yummy food. Then we just the day together as a family.

my cute little hatched chicken cupcakes.

Whatever way it is you like to spend your Easter, just remember, kids are impressed by the simple things. It didn't take much for the boys to think this is the greatest Easter ever!!

A cake i am proud of

I set myself up for a MASSIVE challenge when a couple i know needed a wedding cake. They had their dream cake in mind, but weren't expecting to get it because the quotes they got were out of their budget. So i put my hand up, and said i'll try, and that would be their wedding gift. So here it is:

My Birthday! Alice in Wonderland

We start the year off by celebrating me becoming another year older. For my birthday i decided to have an Alice in Wonderland theme, and felt very lucky to have some great friends who came in fancy dress.
The main point of my birthday was to get together with my friends all at once, since i dont get to see them very often with us all having our own busy lives with work and kids.
For my table decorations I got a plastic white tablecloth to cover the table, and got some flower wrapping paper (i just liked the design on it) for a table runner. I had 3 red paper lanterns. I made 2 top hats (Mad Hatter) and had a buch of flowers that had eyes stuck on them coming out of one. I also bought some white roses and splattered red paint on them (Red queen making Alice paint her roses) which were arranged in painted tea cups. I also bought a deck of cards and put them around.

My cake was 3-tiers. the bottom purple with pink stripes to represent Cheshire, the middle was white with red and black hearts to represent the Red Queen, and the top was a top hat for Mad Hatter.
I made custard Tarts (with proper custard- not the packet kind), and cake pops (which fell apart- but still tasted great)
You dont have to decorate your whole house, you can just decorate a table. As long as you put in a little effort, people will be talking about it!

B's 4th Birthday- Buzz Lightyear

My son had an obsession with going to space and going to the "spaceport". He would stand in the backyard, stretching his arms up trying to reach the sky. Needless to say, that didn't work. So option number 2 was to jump on the trampoline and try and reach the sky. Nope, didnt work either. After thinking about it, he decided it was time to get daddy on board and try and convince him to buy a really tall ladder that will get him to the sky.
So, it got me thinking, he had already decided he wanted a Buzz Lightyear birthday party, so why not bring space to him? Easy enough right??
We started by making paper mache planets, and cutting out cardboard stars and painting them yellow then sprinkled with gold glitter. We got Black plastic wrap that went on the walls and ceiling only (warning parents of younger kids that it was there, so to keep an eye on them), and finally a couple of helium balloons.
So decorations were sorted.
For music, I went on iTunes and downloaded the Toy Story soundtrack. Also Toy Story was on the TV for the shy kids.

For food, I didn't do a lot of themed food but i had homemade sausage rolls (with hidden vegies), MilkyWay chocolate bars, and Starburst lollies (so there was a little bit of a theme)

The cake was Buzz in space with some aliens.

For the lolly bags we used noodle boxes and put on them a photo of Master B with Buzz that I ordered from a photographer.

Our party wasn't what you may call "perfect" but we did it on our own and Master B had heaps of fun on the day- which is the most important thing :)
